If you are a regular user of Google Analytics you should be keeping a keen eye on your Bounce Rate, but what does it mean? Well fortunately for you our April Jargon Buster is about just that, Bouncing (and not the space hopper type!)
The bounce rate is the percentage of people who enter and leave your website from exactly the same page without clicking on or navigating to any other pages. The reason that you should be tracking this is it is a very good indicator of how good your site content is as well as your site navigation. Basically, if a user cannot find or read about what hooked them into your website then they will leave.
There are of course genuine reasons why people may ‘bounce’ on and off your website, they may have just clicked to find the phone number or email address to get in contact with you. A user may also have bookmarked your website so they only land on the page that they require.
However it is worth questioning a few things if you see an increasing Bounce Rate. Look at the different traffic sources that are coming to your websites, if you are experiencing a high Bounce Rate from Google AdWords or a particular referral site then maybe your advert text isn't relevant? If the navigation on your site is clunky, look at how you can make it more user friendly.
If you have tried the above and are worried about an increasing Bounce Rate then just get in contact and we can see what we can do to help reduce this and improve your visitor experience.
