We work in the IT and creative industry so we are used to the technical jargon which is floating around, but after a recent client meeting it suddenly dawned on us that we are getting close to having more acronyms than the education system!
To combat this, or at least to try and take some of the mystery away, we have decided to focus on one acronym a month and try and make it easy to understand
The first phrase that we are going to try and demystify is CMS (Content Management System.)
A Content Management System (CMS) is designed to allow users the flexibility to edit and manage a website with limited technical knowledge and a small amount of training.
We believe there are four characteristics that any reputable CMS should provide:
Ease of Use
Your CMS should not require specialised programming in order to fit into your organisation
Content Flexibility
Creating, managing and editing content will be a common, if not daily activity. There should be an abundance of features that provide easy-to-use content management capabilities
Content Security
Having controls over who can add, modify, or delete the content on your site is critical for content integrity and quality control
Scalable and Modular
A good CMS should be able to grow with your organisation and offer modular expansion routes that fit your business needs.
If you have any suggestions that you want explaining please just send them in and we will try our very hardest to simplify the meaning of these phrases.
